Krakow Airport Balice and Katowice Airport

There is only one main airport in Małopolska, Krakow Balice Airport, it is the local and main airport for the entire Malopolska region. The official name is John Pawła II International Airport. Krakow Balice Airport is a small and easy to use airport located 11km from Krakow city center. There are many plans for the development of this airport, before the Euro 2012 Football Championship that is to be held in Poland and the Ukraine, among other things the development of a new train station to link the airport directly to Krakow city center, a three star hotel along with a well developed underground car park. The Completion of the multistory car park immediately outside the international terminal was completed in 2010 freeing up the original parking area for these new developments.

Today for most visitors, Krakow airport is a small and convenient airport to use. There are two terminals about 900m apart connected with the free airport shuttle bus that runs from T1 to T2 and then around to the temporary shuttle train station that is located on the outskirts of the airport terrain. This bus runs every 15 minutes and will match up with the Shuttle train departures into Krakow city center.

Most international flights arrive and depart from T1 (both arrival and departure are in the same terminal and in fact, the same building). For those of you that have booked personal transfer to your hotel or resort then you will normally meet your driver just after you clear the custom's area and enter the main terminal building. For others this is where you need to decide how to get into the city center or where ever you will be staying.

Furthermore, when looking at flights into Krakow it is worth looking for flights to Katowice as they can often be much cheaper due to the fact that it takes over an hour to travel from Katowice to Krakow. One of the little known cheap airlines that flies to Katowice is Wizzair. This option is only really for people on a budget and even then you will need to cover the cost of traveling to and from Katowice. Wizzair do offer a shuttle bus and more information can be found on their website. We will not go into more details about this option and will focus our information around Krakow airport. If you do use Katowice, then remember that it would be best if you have an afternoon return flight due to the travel time to this airport.
